Orange and green "Arches" Egg Sculpture
This egg sculpture was thrown on the wheel, then organic shapes were carved out in different sizes, inspired by the wonderful eroded texture of some walls in Arches National Park. The outline of each carved out shape was painted in orange and green. It was then covered with a clear glaze as well as the tripod base it is resting on. Both pieces were fired at cone 6 (over 2200 degrees F or 1200 degrees C). The egg is 5 1/2 inches tall and about 4 inches at its widest. The egg and base are sold together. You can insert a fairy light inside the egg (either battery operated or the plugged in type ) to create a soft accent light in a lounge or it could be used as a night light. Because of the carved openings, the shadows of various circles reflecting around on the walls is another work of art all by itself. Egg Sculptures are wonderful gifts to celebrate new beginnings. I like this egg so much that I made several versions of it, including this one.
