This mug was thrown and the wheel then decorated with pieces of a Nerikomi pattern made with different layers of colored clay attached and textured on the body of the mug, as well as used to create the handle. The design was meant to replicated fabric pieces on a quilt, This mug is covered with a clear glaze inside and outside while the Nerikomi “patchwork” pieces were left unglazed to give a variation of texture and surface smoothness when held in your hand.
