Monster Tomato Egg Sculpture with Textured Specks of Colored Clay (Container and Lid)
This sculpture was thrown on the wheel as a ball shaped vessel using recycled colored clay (hence the grey tint of the pot). Then the lid was cut off and the stem added. Finally colored clay specks were stuck to the pot to give this weird texture. It is unglazed on the outside and glazed with a bluish glaze on the inside. It was fired at cone 10 (over 2300 degrees F or 1200 degrees C) . it can be used to hide jewelry or as an unusual salt cellar (the glaze inside makes it fine to store food) . It is about 5 inches high at the top of the stem and 4 inches wide. It makes me think of a monster tomato egg, and is part of my monster egg series.
